How Master Lawn Uses “Turf Vision” with Vestige Cameras to Strengthen Client Trust and Technician Accountability

Body Camera Solution: Transform Customer Service with instant and affordable “Proof of Work”

In the world of lawn care, reputation is everything.

Customers want to know they are getting exactly what they paid for. And in an industry where much of the work is not always clearly visible, trust can be hard to maintain.

Master Lawn, a growing lawn services company serving thousands of residential accounts across the Southeast, knows this reality well.

For years, they have built long-term customer relationships through reliable service and consistent results.

Yet as the company expanded, one challenge became harder to control: ensuring that every customer felt confident their technician completed the work fully and correctly.

Enter Vestige body cameras — or, as Master Lawn has branded it, “Turf Vision.”

By equipping every field technician with body-worn cameras, Master Lawn eliminates customer doubts, rapidly resolves disputes, gains trust, and hold its team accountable without adding layers of costly management oversight.

About Master Lawn

Business is booming for Memphis-based Master Lawn.

The company manages approximately 9,000 residential accounts, recently opened a new branch in Hurstville, Alabama, and is exploring another acquisition in Mississippi.

Unlike many companies that handle mowing, trimming, irrigation, or planting, Master Lawn focuses on what manager Davey Hooper describes as the “enhancement side of lawn care,” which includes:

  • Weed control and fertilization programs with eight applications spread throughout the year.
  • Pre-emergent cover spray applications to prevent weeds.
  • Three fertilizers and spot treatments in spring and summer.
  • A lime application at the end of the season to balance pH.
  • Specialized treatments such as fire ant control, grub control, lawn disease control, mosquito control, pest barriers, core aeration, liquid aeration, and overseeding.
  • In short, Master Lawn delivers a comprehensive lawn care experience for long-term clients who recognize that the aesthetics of their lawn is part of their home’s value.

However, many of the processes and applications included in their comprehensive service are difficult, if not impossible, for a customer to appreciate upon completion.

The work may have been completed, but homeowners were still often wondering, “Was that fifth weed control spraying really completed last Thursday?”

That lack of visibility creates unique challenges for trust and customer perception.

“There’s just unfortunately a bad stigma in our industry, I think mainly from customers dealing with big box companies,” Hooper states, “they don’t know what the technician is doing when they are out there.”

And they ask: “Did they only cover 50 percent of their property, or did they only complete half their front lawn, and not touch their back lawn?”

This stigma, unfortunately, means that even long-term customers sometimes question whether certain services were performed. Hooper explained that some customers have been with Master Lawn for 15 years and have had great experiences, yet just one issue with a technician can prompt long-lasting mistrust.

One common example he mentioned is a customer believing their gate was locked when in reality it was unlocked or the technician unlocked it, treated the backyard, relocked it, and even notified the customer.

Without a reliable body camera system to capture what really happens, Hooper often found himself personally driving out to customers’ homes to explain or demonstrate how services had been performed, which can be time-consuming, frustrating, and ultimately unsustainable for a growing company.

Vestige Body Cameras Solution for Proof of Work

Vestige Body Cameras Solution for Proof of Work
Master Lawn turned to Vestige’s body-worn camera system to solve both problems at once. Today, all 25 of the company’s field technicians wear chest-mounted Vestige body cameras that record every job from start to finish, from pulling up, verifying the address, placing cones, and knocking on the door to treating the lawn (always beginning with the backyard).

Master Lawn has made the cameras a transparent part of their operations from the very beginning. Known internally and in customer-facing materials as “Turf Vision,” the technology is introduced to every customer upfront.

As Davey explains it, “We’re trying to trademark it, cause we’re calling it Turf Vision. I think there is kind of a negative stigma with body cameras, so we try to stay away from that verbiage as much as possible.”

Customers are informed about Turf Vision through terms and conditions, after-service emails, and even in marketing materials. Far from hiding the cameras, Hooper positions them as a differentiator: “Nobody else in our market does this,” he says.

How Body-Worn Cameras Have Changed the Game for Master Lawn:

Proof of Service at the Click of a Button

The most common customer complaint in lawn care is simple: “I don’t think the technician did the work that I paid for.”

Sometimes it’s because a customer’s Ring doorbell only captured footage of the front yard. Other times, they just didn’t notice signs of fertilizer or treatment right away. Before Vestige, the solution might include dispatching another technician, an expensive and time-consuming exercise.

Now, Hooper’s team simply sends over the Vestige footage. Customers can watch the technician unlock the gate, treat the backyard, and complete every step of the service.

Preventing False Damage Claims

Another common problem Lawn Masters faced was damage disputes. Customers occasionally claimed a technician had broken a gate or knocked over a mailbox.

With the Vestige body cameras with audio that their technicians are equipped with, managers at Master Lawn can simply review the footage.

In one instance, the video clearly showed that the gate was already broken when the technician arrived. In another, it confirmed the mailbox was intact when the technician left.

These moments have saved the company significant money on unnecessary claims and have burnished trust to keep clients loyal.

Building Trust Before Doubt Arises

Vestige footage is not only reactive, it’s proactive too. The cameras provide transparency that customers value. Many homeowners worry that technicians apply too little fertilizer or skip areas altogether.

Vestige allows Master Lawn to demonstrate that everything is applied thoroughly and correctly, reducing objections during the sales process and instilling confidence from day one.

“The footage proof is great because often the only other alternative is having to go all the way down there and show the customer where exactly we sprayed.”

Quality Assurance and Operational Improvements

Beyond customer-facing benefits, the inclusion of cameras has strengthened internal operations.

Instead of hiring managers to check on technicians in the fields, supervisors can simply review footage. This helps managers like Davey ensure that all technicians are following standard operating procedures and that every single Lawn Master customer is receiving a consistent experience.

As Hooper notes, “I don’t think there is another option out there unless you want to hire 15 managers.”

Hiring additional managers would cost Master Lawn hundreds of thousands annually.

Vestige provides accountability across the entire team for roughly $1,500 a month. This efficiency allows the company to scale without expanding overhead, keeping margins healthy while delivering consistent service to thousands of households.

Embracing Transparency

While many companies in the industry shy away from such transparency, Master Lawn has leaned into it, making it part of its brand identity as seen in its branding of Turf Vision.

By openly sharing that every treatment is recorded, they’ve positioned themselves as more trustworthy than competitors who aren’t able to provide the same level of proof.

This approach builds customer confidence, reduces disputes, and turns potential concerns into a competitive advantage.

“Nobody in our market does it,” Hooper said. “We’re saying to the customer, this is 100 percent transparency. We’re pulling the curtain back, and you can see everything our technician does from the time they are on the property to the time they leave.”

Results of Implementing Vestige Cameras into Lawn Master’s Services

Since rolling out Vestige cameras, Master Lawn has experienced measurable improvements:

  • Reduced customer disputes: Service completion is no longer a matter of opinion; there is always solid proof.
  • Lower liability costs: False damage claims are quickly resolved with video evidence.
  • Improved accountability: Technicians know every action is recorded, driving consistent performance.
  • Better sales positioning: Transparency about recording sets Master Lawn apart in the market.
  • Significant cost savings: Cameras provide oversight at a fraction of the cost of hiring additional managers.

Lessons for Other Lawn Care Companies

For companies still managing service disputes manually or relying solely on customer trust, Master Lawn’s experience offers a clear roadmap.

Without cameras, every doubt, complaint, or claim requires extra time, extra trips, and often extra costs.

With the body-worn cameras, also known as Turf Vision, those issues are resolved with a simple video link.

“We have 30 technicians doing 25-30 stops a day, so there’s no way you could ever set foot on 5-10 percent of those lawns on any given day or month or in a year,” Hooper emphasizes to other lawn care providers.

“How are you really checking behind your technicians and doing what you’re saying you’re going to be doing for the customer?”

The gap between what customers see and what technicians do have fueled mistrust across the industry.

Master Lawn chose to address the problem directly by adopting Vestige body cameras.

The move has delivered proof of service, improved accountability, prevented costly disputes, and given the company a unique competitive advantage.

With 9,000 residential accounts, new branches opening, and growth continuing, Master Lawn is proof that transparency, backed by technology, is the way forward for lawn companies that want to build lasting trust with their customers.
